This website was created to provide a platform to contact classmates and organize our 50thyear reunion. That objective was completed in 2013. The website was maintained from 2011-2020 by using the funds that were in our operating budget. When that money ran out, the website was extended for an additional three years, 2020 to 2023, through the generous financial contributions of 25 alumni and volunteer efforts of several others. This enabled us to extend the website’s life a full 10 years post-50th reunion and allowed members to refresh and renew their connections with each other.
Our records indicate that out of a total class of approximately 1,011 students, 488 alumni with known whereabouts were identified. Since 123 have passed, 365 alumni remain. During 2022, posts to the General Message Forum totaled 627, of which 71% were made by 10 individuals. During the period 1/1-7/7/23, posts totaled 47 (or 94 on an annualized basis) of which 77% were made by nine individuals. The Reunion Steering Committee has concluded that it’s cost prohibitive to pour any additional funds or energy into a project that 98% of our class doesn’t use.
For these reasons and considering the multiple social media platforms available for any of us to maintain contact with each other, this website will close on August 16, 2023, when our subscription with Class Creator ends. If you haven’t already done so, please make a note of the site’s closing date and preserve anyone’s contact information you wish to retain going forward.
Anyone interested in building an alternate website for Niles High Schools, Class of ’63, is welcome to do so. You may use our current website to post your intentions, invite classmates to join the new website, and seek their contact information. Class Creator is but one purveyor of website construction and we found them both helpful and supportive. Probably the most cost-effective platform would be a private Facebook page. Matters of confidentiality and privacy prohibit the committee from sharing the proprietary database compiled for NileHi1963.com.
